Prior to Dr. Kamil J. Asali's passing away, a committee was formed from Jerusalemite institutions in Amman and the University of Jordan to present him a Festschrift on occasion of his 70th birthday. But fate wanted him to pass away before the work was finalized. These essays are in memory of him and were written by distinguished Arab and international scholars. The aim is to honour his outstanding achievements as well as his continuous efforts in historical research for the benefit of Jerusalem and its Arab-Islamic heritage.

In recognition of the importance of Dr. Kamil J. Asali's work and his contribution to developing the Palestinian library through studies, translation and documentation, the Palestinian Academic Society for the Study of International Affairs (PASSIA), held a seminar reviewing his work and assessing his achievements. The proceedings of the seminar provide a comprehensive reading of Asali's writings and studies on Palestinian history, heritage and culture, in particular with relation to the question of Jerusalem . Several researchers and scholars contributed to this book, dealing with a specific topic.
